TS&M Woodlawn Golf Club attracted 82 eager golfers to its lush fairways and rolling greens last Monday for the annual Marv Symons Memorial Golf Tournament.

“It's the first tournament of the year,” said Nolan Rohatyn, who won the Men's Championship Flight with a round of 73 (1-over). “It's fun to get out here and it's a lot of friends. Lee (Symons) is a friend to all of us, so we like to come out here to support the tournament.”

Diane Thul won the Ladies Flight at the 18-hole tournament with a round of 93 (21-over), which was one stroke ahead of Dawn Ramstead and 10 better than Lori Knipka. Ramstead did capture the closest to the pin award on Hole 14 and the furthest line drive award on Hole 9.

Keith Ramstead came ahead in the Senior Men's Championship Flight with a round of 73 (1-over). Mike Ross followed closely behind him with a 74 (2-over), while Pat Murphy came in third with a score of 77 (4-over).

Terry Rohatyn won the Senior Men's First Flight with a round of 83 (11-over), which was nine strokes ahead of Dale Fox and 10 better than Al Batters. Ross captured the closest to the pin award on Hole 8, Rohatyn accomplished the same feat on Hole 14 and Les Geisel hit the furthest line drive on Hole 9.

Following Nolan in the Men's Championship Flight were Brock Simpson with a score of 75 (3-over) and Marcus Friess with a 76. Kaden Antonuik won the Men's First Flight, Murray Salaway took the honours in the Second Flight and Jeff Pratt captured the Third Flight. Nathan Jesse won the closest to the pin award on the Hole 8, Parnell Pidhorny did the same on Hole 14 and Jordan Robinson hit the furthest line drive on Hole 9.

Nolan said his round at the Marv Symons Memorial was pretty similar to what he usually shoots at the TS&M Woodlawn course, with his worst shot of the day coming on the Hole 10 when he hit into the water making a double bogie. He followed that up on Hole 13 with his best shot of the day using a driver and wedge to hit a shot about three feet from the pin where he tapped it in for birdie.

It's my “third round of 18 this year, (but) it's been windy a lot and windy again today,” he said. “It wasn't the easiest day to score well, but you just had to keep it together and play it well.”
