The Yellow Grass Wheat Kings started their inaugural season in the Big Six Hockey League on Tuesday night.
The Wheat Kings were formed after the discontinuation of the Arcola/Kisbey team. The Wheat Kings include many players from Arcola and Kisbey, but also many from the Weyburn-Yellow Grass area.
The roster includes: Ryder Watson, Jesse Watson, Mike Onstad, Carter Birch, Justin Tichter, Kyle Crozier, Dylan Frey, Jeff Reimer, Devon Johnson, Corey Koski, Matt Dries, Troy Miller, Brendan Vertefeuille, Dustin Chartrand, Josh Colbow, Jackson Schneider, Kevin Morrison, Reid Paterson, Kyle Mryglod, Mackenzie Metheral, Brock Appleyard, Zach Watson, Brice Marshall, Cameron Irwin and Tanner Erickson.
The Wheat Kings will be in Midale on Saturday, Nov. 12, when they face up against the Mustangs at 8 p.m.
Both the Wheat Kings and the Mustangs compete in the west division of the Big Six Hockey League. Other teams in their division include Bienfait and Carlyle.
There are four teams that compete in the east division of the league: Carnduff, Wawota, Oxbow and Redvers.
The Midale Mustangs started their Big Six Hockey League with two losses. They fell 7-2 against Beinfait on Nov. 4. The Mustangs then lost 6-1 to Redvers on Nov. 5.
The roster for the Mustangs include: Garrett Sherlock, Steven Lindenbach, Cole Sjostrand, Adam Ziegler, Brad Tomiski, Ryley Giblett, Logan Martinson, Rylan Kolke, Brodie Nergard, Cole Piche, Callan Deschner, Brayden Ganson, Lance Tendler, Tyler Hoium, Matt Geske, Matt Bill, Colton MacLean, Kaelum Bieber, Josh Gustafson, Dustin Graham, Derek Tendler, Jeff Davies and Braden Kmita.
On Sunday, Nov. 13, the Midale Mustangs will travel to Carlyle for an away game, and the Yellow Grass Wheat Kings head to Carnduff.
The home opener for the Wheat Kings will be Thursday, Nov. 24.
