The Weyburn Iron Pigs are getting set to kick off another season of Qu’Appelle Valley Baseball League baseball.
The Pigs are coming off of a successful season in 2015 which included a trip to the playoffs for the third straight year.
The team received a first round bye to the second round of playoffs where they were eliminated in game three of the best-of-three series by the Regina A’s. “The team was bit by the injury bug late in the season last year, sidelining a few key players for the playoffs,” said coach Brad Weisgerber.
“This year, however, the team is back to full health and with the addition of two knew players from Radville (Kenton Fisher and Taylor VanDeSype) the team is poised to once again make a deep run into the playoffs.”
The season opener for the Iron Pigs will take place at Tom Laing Park on Thursday, May 12 when they host the Moose Jaw Padres, at 7 p.m. Admission is free of charge.
“The Iron Pigs thank the community for their tremendous support in previous years and we look forward to seeing our fans at the ballpark in 2016,” said Weisgerber.
Other home games include May 19 against Regina Ghosts; May 27 against Regina Capitals; May 31 against Regina Rangers; June 6 against Bethune Bucs; June 16 against Regina A’s; June 23 against Regina Trappers; and July 12 against Findlater Braves.
All home games will be played at Tom Laing Park.
