Kitz rink finishes fourth at juvenile provincials

Chaelynn Kitz, Angela Hookenson, Taylor Marcotte and Halynne Lamontagne finished fourth at the 2015 Ramada Juvenile Provincial Curling Championships in Nipawin. They competed in the girls’ 17-and-under division.

Chaelynn Kitz, Angela Hookenson, Taylor Marcotte and Halynne Lamontagne finished fourth at the 2015 Ramada Juvenile Provincial Curling Championships in Nipawin. They competed in the girls’ 17-and-under division.

In the team’s first game of the competition on March 20, they dropped a 7-5 decision to Team Englot from Neudorf. After giving up steals in the first four ends, Kitz got on the board in the fifth end to make the score 4-2. In the seventh end, trailing 5-2, Team Kitz scored three points and tied the game. In the final end, Englot scored two points to give her the win. 

After the lost, Team Kitz dropped to the B event. They faced Team Wisniewiski from Moose Jaw and defeated them 8-6.

Wisniewiski scored three points in first end and then stole another point in the second.  Kitz responded in the following end by scoring three points. Wisniewiski went up 5-3 in the fourth end, when she scored a point scored.

In the sixth, Kitz went up by one, earning three points. Wisniewiski tied the game in the seventh and in the 8th end Kitz scored a deuce to give her team the win.

The following game resulted in a 6-5 defeat against Team Regush from Lumsden. By the third end   was up 2-0.  Team Kitz responded with three points in the fourth. Regush regained the lead in the fifth by scoring two points.

By the eighth end, Team Kitz was up 5-4.  Team Regush recorded two points in the eighth for the win.

The loss resulted in Team Kitz playing in the C Event.

The following day, Team Kitz went on to win three straight games. They beat Team Golanowski from Saskatoon 7-4.

They were up 3-0 after two ends, but Saskatoon pulled within one in the third.  In the next two ends Team Kitz scored three points.  Saskatoon couldn’t overcome the deficit.

The second game against Team Englot resulted in a 5-2 victory. 

In the final game of the day, Team Kitz beat Team Regush 8-6.  After five ends, Kitz was down 6-2.  In the seventh, the team scored Kitz five points to go up by one, and went on to win.

Team Kitz played in the C final on March 22 against Team Jones, which resulted in a 6-2 loss.  The team scored their only points in the third end.
