A Learn to Skate program was offered to students from Haig school, sponsored by RBC.
“It was amazing to feel the energy and enthusiasm from the students and teachers, and so heartwarming to see how far the students had progressed with their skating after only a few lessons,” said Rodney Gill, branch manager at RBC Weyburn.
“Having players from our own Weyburn Red Wings help instruct on the ice was extra special, and we thank them for their time and for being positive role models for the kids.”
“While we’re getting these students and the school on their feet in year one, it’s not a one-time thing,” adds Taesha Housden, Manager Client Care, RBC Weyburn. “The legacy of the skate and helmet library enables future students at Haig School to discover the joy of skating.”
The students, some of whom have never been on skates, participated in RBC Learn to Skate, which provides lessons, ice time and equipment. The donated skates and helmets will remain and can be signed out at the school.
RBC awards a Learn to Skate program in every community that hosts a Hockey Canada event, in this case it is the upcoming Esso Cup. Over the past three years, RBC has awarded more than $1,000,000 in skating programs benefitting youth across the county.
