The 2018 Tim Hortons Brier and SaskEnergy announced the 64 junior curlers in Saskatchewan who were selected as SaskEnergy Future Stars, including some Weyburn area curlers.
Shayla Moore and Gregg Wiens of Weyburn, along with Kaitlyn Kotz and Connor Cherpin of Radville, were selected as “Future Stars”.
The list of junior curlers were announced at the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame. The young curlers will be paired up with teams at the 2018 Tim Hortons Brier, which will be held at Regina’s Brandt Centre at Evraz Place from March 3-11.
The competition was open to all junior curlers in the province between the ages of 12 and 16.
Each junior star will receive an official Future Stars jacket, and during the Brier they will be introduced while they accompany their selected team during a pregame march onto the ice.
“On behalf of SaskEnergy, we are pleased to sponsor the 2018 Tim Hortons Brier Future Stars program and provide these young curlers with first-hand experience of what it takes to reach the highest levels in their sport,” said Gene Makowsky on behalf of the minister responsible for SaskEnergy, Joe Hargrave.
