The Saskatchewan Curling Association’s mixed curling provincials tournament continues at the Power Dodge Curling Centre in Estevan, and the first two qualifiers for the playoffs have been determined.
Dustin Kalthoff defeated Tyler Hartung 6-1 in four ends in one of the A-event finals, while Jason Ackerman knocked off Shaun Meachem 8-1 in five ends in the other. Those games were played Friday night.
The remaining six playoff births will be determined Saturday. The B event finals will be at 3 p.m., and the four C event finals will be at 7 p.m.
Playoffs will be Sunday, with the quarter-finals at 9 a.m., the semifinals at 1 p.m. and the final at 5 p.m.
Twenty-four teams are entered the competition, including six local teams.
Two are still in the B event. Tye Olson’s rink, with third Taylor Marcotte, second Allan Walter and lead Deanna Marcotte, are 4-1. They will play Justin Heather at 10 a.m.
The Shawn Meyer rink, which also consists of third Alexandra Meyer, second Austin Williamson and lead Leah Moriarty, has gone 3-1 and is in the B event. They will face Ben Gamble in a B event contest at 10 a.m.
Three more teams are in the C event. The Brent Gedak rink has a 1-2 record and is in the C event. Also on his team are third Candace Chisholm, second Andrew McMillan and lead Janelle Gedak.
They will face another local rink, Kris Keating, at 10 a.m. The Keating team is 2-2 at the tournament. Other members are third Chelsey Emberley, second Marcus Lau and lead Chantel Martin.
The Wade St. Onge rink, which boasts third Courtney Montgomery, second Tyler Corbin and lead Jana Anseth, has a 1-2 record. They will play Aaron Verbeem at 10 a.m.
The Mike Keating rink, also consisting of third Caitlyn Green, second Brent Giesbrecht and lead Abigail Lachambre-Renkas, went 0-3 at provincials. They were eliminated Friday night.
