The SATA held the 95th Saskatchewan Trapshooting Championships at the Saskatoon Gun Club on July 15 to 17.
The shoot was well attended by shooters from the home province as well as Alberta and Manitoba. Shooting conditions were fair to good as far as wind is concerned for most of the three days of competition but the visibility was dull and hazy for the championship days.
The singles championship of 200 targets was won by Dwight Smith of Biggar with a score of 197x200 but not before he had to win a shootoff with Ed Kuzyk of Hudson Bay who ended up with Veteran honors. Runner-up in the event was Kahl Boll of Regina (194x200) while Rod Boll of Fillmore was the sub-veteran champ with a 196x100. Logan King of Estevan 192x100 was Junior champ in the event.
The doubles event was held Sunday, with two clay targets thrown simultaneously, and was won by Rod Boll of Fillmore with a score of 97x100 again.
There was another shootoff for the first place, with father Rod up against son Kahl Boll. Rod prevailed in one round of shoot off by a score of 19x20 to Kahl’s 17x20.
This was Rod’s eight doubles championship in which is a SATA record.
The final event of the championship was the handicap where shooters compete from greater distance from the traphouse according to ability. The winners in this event had a local flavor as junior shooter Logan King of Estevan was the champion with a lone score of 94 x 100, while the runner-up was Dave (Tiger) Williams, formerly of Weyburn with a score of 93 x 100.
The Estevan Trap Club is very proud of Logan King as it is rare for a junior shooter to win this prestigious event.
