A trio of minor hockey players from southeast Saskatchewan have helped the Tisdale Trojans win the bronze medal at the Telus Cup national midget AAA hockey championship in Thunder Bay, Ont.

Forward Dawson Schaff and Liam Rutten, who hail from Lampman and Alameda, respectively, and goaltender Bryson Garton, also of Lampman, were part of the Trojans this season.

All three played for the Estevan Minor Hockey Association at some point.

The Trojans went 2-3 to finish fourth in the round robin; they played five games in five days from April 22-26. Then they lost 4-2 to the Contonniers de Magog out of Quebec in the semifinal, before rebounding to knock off Calgary in the bronze medal game.

This week’s edition of the Mercury will have more on this story.
