The Weyburn Cobra wrestling club hosted their annual Cobra Classic on Saturday. Clubs from Saskatoon, Moose Jaw, Swift Current, Esterhazy, Manor, Prince Albert, Regina and other communities gathered at the Cugnet Centre for the event.
The following are results for the Weyburn wrestlers.
In the freshie division, Alyen Drake won second in the 21 to 22 kilogram category; Thomas Olson won first and Kayden Duddy placed fourth in the 24 to 25 kg category; and Raide Kiraly took first in the 27 to 29 kg category.
In the novice division, Carver Heustis took second in the 23 to 25 kg category; Trotter Drake took third in the 26 to 27 kg category; Liam Evans took fourth in the 29 to 32 kg category; Billy Franklin took second in the 32 to 34 kg category; and Danny Fortune placed second in the 41 to 45 kg category.
Competing in the peewee division, Cale Mohan took third in the 28 to 29 kg category; Halen Drake placed second and Kalen Burt took fourth in the 31 to 34 kg category; Eric Fleming took first in the 37 to 40 kg category; Allie Gawryluik took third in the 42 to 45 kg category; Keith Allin took first in the 47 to 52 kg category; Faith Gryde placed second in the 52 to 55 kg category; and Makenna Ricard took first in the 59 to 62 kg category.
For the bantam female division, Skylar Coderre took second in the 48 to 53 kg category; and Frankie Gawryluik took first in the 61 kg category. For the bantam male division, Dawson Runge took second in the 33 to 35 kg category.
Competing in the cadet and juvenile female category, Katelyn Franklin took first in the 57 to 58 category. In the cadet and juvenile male category, Aaron Hemphill took first in the 48 kg division; Carter Barett took first in the 54 to 58 kg category; Tyler Fleming took first, Braydon Roberts took fourth, Ryan Verbeem took fifth and Brody Glover took sixth in the 63 to 68 kg category; Brayden Johnson took first in the 76 kg category; Kyle Martin took first in the 83 kg category; and Nathan Bradley finished first in the 105 to 109 kg category.
The Cobra Wrestlers will send their high school athletes to Regina this weekend for a tournament, and also several athletes will try out for the Western Canadian Games on Sunday.
