The Weyburn Minor Ball Association recently announced that registration for the upcoming 2017 minor baseball and softball is now open online. Families are invited to visit weyburnminorball.ca to fill out the online registration form.
Minor ball registration coordinator and treasurer Kari Erb encourages registration to be done as soon as possible and for sure before the end of March. “Our organization is once again expecting record numbers this year, so early registration helps us with planning,” said Erb.
Minor ball is open to boys and girls born between 1999 and 2012. Children born in 2011 and 2012 play in a co-ed program that meet twice a week starting in early May. The balance of boys play in a baseball program while the girls play in a softball program. All programs will start in early May and most end about the end of June. Softball president Jim Swyrda and baseball head chairman Tyrel Hansen have put together an exciting program for Weyburn that they hope will lead to plenty of fun for participants and families.
“Costs have always been a concern and we at WMBA have set up a program that may exceed most in the province with fees that are far less than most,” said Hansen.
Softball registration rates are: mini mites, girls born in 2009 and 2010, registration is $80; mites, girls born in 2007 and 2008, registration is $80; squirt, girls born in 2005 and 2006, registration is $135; peewee, girls born in 2003 and 2004, registration is $145; bantam, girls born in 2001 and 2002, registration is $165; and midget, girls born in 1999 and 2000, registration is $185.

The Weyburn Minor Ball Association is gearing up for another season of growth, skill development and plenty of fun for Weyburn and area youth.
A five-week indoor softball pitching clinic is currently running once a week, after starting on Feb. 19. A three-week hitting clinic will start March 26 and will meet once a week. For more information and to register, residents can go online to the Softball Saskatchewan website.
On the baseball side, Hansen has clinics in the planning stages at this time. He said to expect an active spring training indoor program to be announced soon.
