The Melfort Mustangs scored four times in just over seven minutes of the second period in a 6-2 victory over the Power Dodge Estevan Bruins in Game 1 of their Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League semifinal series Friday night in Melfort.

Turner Ripplinger scored with eight minutes to play in the first period to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead, and Bryce Platt tallied four minutes into the second to double the lead.

But Kenzie Arnold scored midway through the second to pull Melfort to within one, and Zach Anderson’s goal less than two minutes later tied the game. Arnold would score twice more before the end of the period to give Melfort a two-goal lead.

Colin Schmidt assisted on all four of Melfort's goals.

Carson Albrecht added two goals in the third for the Mustangs; his second goal was into an empty net.

Grant Boldt stopped 27 of the 32 shots he faced in the game. Noah Giesbrecht stopped 25 shots for Melfort.

The victory marked the first time the Mustangs have beaten the Bruins this season. The Bruins won all four meetings during the regular season.

Game 2 will be played Saturday night in Melfort.
