The Estevan novice Vipers lacrosse team played a trio of league games recently.
First they played a doubleheader against the Regina Rush on Saturday at Affinity Place. The two teams played to a 4-4 tie in the first game, and then won the second 7-6.
The Rush had the lead four times in the first game, but the Vipers came back to tie each time. Brayden Mehler, Kashmir Casemore, Cowan Ludtke and Payton Phillips scored for the Vipers. Phillips' goal with 3:38 to play in the third period tied the game for the final time.
In the second game against the Rush, the Vipers led 2-1 after the first period on goals by Casemore and Mehler, but trailed 5-3 after two periods. Jade Jumbe had their lone goal in the meddle frame.
But the Vipers tallied four times in the third period, including three times in the final three minutes. After the Rush scored to take a 6-3 lead, Porter Crossman, Mehler and Phillips scored to tie the game. Phillips’ goal came with 63 seconds to play.
Then Crossman notched his second of the game just as time expired to lift his team to victory.
The Vipers were shut out 6-0 on Sunday by the host Regina Stingers. The Stingers scored twice in each period in the victory.
Marcus Jumbe was in goal for each game.
The Vipers record is 3-4-1. Their next action will be on May 27, when they have a pair of home games at Affinity Place. They will host the Regina Snipers at 10 a.m. and the Regina Outlaws at 12:15 p.m.
