Olympic Canadian athletes share their experiences on Twitter

The 2016 Rio Olympics have​ officially closed, but #Rio2016 will ​go down as one of the most socially interactive games to date with millions worldwide following the action on Twitter as well as athletes sharing their unique experiences.

The 2016 Rio Olympics have​ officially closed, but #Rio2016 will ​go down as one of the most socially interactive games to date with millions worldwide following the action on Twitter as well as athletes sharing their unique experiences.​ ​
Twitter Canada​ has shared a​ collection of some of the ​​greatest moments from #TeamCanada ​during #Rio2016​ as well as some interesting data to show what #TeamCanada athletes and sports had Canadians talking most.
​​Penny Oleksiak not only wowed at the Games by bringing home gold for Canada, she was also the top mentioned #TeamCanada athlete on Twitter overall during the Games, taking the top spot for six of the 16 days.
Here is​​ a list of the top ten most mentioned ​#TeamCanada athletes: Penny Oleksiak, swimming; Andre De Grasse, sprinting; Brianne Theisen-Eaton, heptathlon; Rosie MacLennan, trampoline; Genie Bouchard, tennis; Derek Drouin, high jump; Erica Wiebe, wrestling; Christine Sinclair, soccer; Adam van Koeverden, kayaking; and Jen Kish, rugby.
Not only did some athletes bring home ​a medal, many saw a jump in Twitter followers during #Rio2016, with ​​Penny Oleksiak gaining 47,000+ followers, ​​Andrew De Grasse gaming 39,000+ and ​​Brianne Thiesen-Eaton gaining 17,000+ followers.
