Opening matches for Tankard announced

The opening matches for the first two draws of the 2018 SaskTel Tankard at Affinity Place were announced this morning by Curling Saskatchewan. The opening draw Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.

The opening matches for the first two draws of the 2018 SaskTel Tankard at Affinity Place were announced this morning by Curling Saskatchewan.

The opening draw Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. will have fifth-ranked Brent Gedak taking on Langenburg’s Jeff Hartung. Gedak’s rink includes third Clint Dieno, second Derek Owens and lead Shawn Meyer.

Also in the opening draw, top-ranked Steve Laycock from Saskatoon Nutana will be battling fellow Nutana curler Aaron Shutra, ranked 16th. The other matches have Nutana’s Jason Jacobson taking on Fox Valley’s Ryan Deis and Brady Kendal against Kerrobert’s Joshua Heidt. 

Wednesday night’s draw will see Colton Flasch from Nutana against Saskatoon Sutherland’s Brayden Stewart, Kerrobert’s Brock Virtue against Regina Callie’s Randy Bryden, Carl deConinck-Smith of Rosetown against Sutherland’s Scott Bitz, and Regina Callie’s Daniel Selke against Regina Highland’s Adam Casey.

The rest of the draws will be announced as the teams make their way through the triple elimination tournament through will Sunday’s semifinal at 9:30 a.m. and final at 2:30 p.m.

The winner will represent Saskatchewan at the Tim Hortons Brier in March.
