Oxbow’s Chaelynn Kitz has been saluted for her performance on the ice and for her sportsmanship during the recent Viterra Scotties Tournament of Hearts women's provincial curling championships.

Kitz was the lead on Sherry Anderson’s rink, who advanced to the final of this year’s tournament in Melville. They won three straight must-win games to reach the final, but lost 8-5 in the final Tuesday to Robyn Silvernagle, who won the provincial title for the second straight year.

It was the first time Kitz had curled with the Anderson rink in provincials. Kitz replaced Aly Jenkins as lead after Jenkins died during childbirth this past October.

Kitz was also presented with the Marj Mitchell Sportsmanship Award during the tournament. Mitchell, who was from the Glen Ewen area, skipped the first Canadian team to win the women’s world curling title in 1980. She passed away from cancer in 1983.
