The Harris Oilfield Construction Voltz opened their side of the provincial tournament with a huge 14-4 win over the Yorkton Fighting Pikes.
The Voltz scored five goals in the first five minutes and cruised to the victory Friday afternoon at the Power Dodge Ice Centre. Estevan’s Affinity Place and the Power Dodge Ice Centre are hosting the provincial tournament for the peewee and bantam divisions, while provincials for the midget division are being held at the Bienfait Memorial Arena.
Chase Foord scored five goals for the Voltz, while Corby Lemcke, Shea McNabb, Ryder Davison and Logan Lang scored two each. Tye Farnsworth scored the other goal for the Voltz.
Foord got the lone goal for the Voltz in their 11-1 loss to the Regina Outlaws later Friday afternoon.
Their next game will be Saturday at 2:15 p.m. at the Power Dodge Ice Centre against the Swift Current Rampage (0-0-1). Playoffs begin at 3:30 p.m. in the peewee division.
The bantam KPCL Voltz lost a pair of close games in their division. They dropped a 7-5 decision to the Saskatoon Tropics Friday morning and a 6-5 loss to the Moose Jaw Mustangs in the afternoon. Nathan Wagstaff scored two goals and an assist, while Kaden Chrest scored a pair with a helper. Jackson Miller scored the other goal for the Voltz while Cole Blondeau stopped a lot of shots in the Voltz’ net.
In the afternoon, the Mustangs scored two goals 18 seconds apart late in the third period to take back the lead for good in a back and forth battle with the Voltz. Chrest scored a hat trick, and Wagstaff and Miller scored singles for the Voltz.
The Voltz play the Predators Saturday at noon at Affinity Place, while the playoffs for that division start at 4:30 p.m.
