All of the Weyburn Comp Eagles volleyball teams did very well at districts. The senior girls and boys teams will be advancing to Saskatchewan High School Athletic Association 5A provincials this weekend in Regina.
The senior girls volleyball team continued its successful past of qualifying to provincials, after winning gold at regionals. The girls regionals were hosted in Weyburn.
The senior girls placed first in their pool after doing undefeated. They defeated Yorkton Regional 2-0, Estevan 2-0 and Balgonie Greenall 2-1 during the round robin.
Then in the playoffs, they defeated Estevan 2-0 in the semi-final match. Then the Eagles defeated Balgonie Greenall 2-1 in the final match.
The senior girls will be going into provincials ranked first seed from the south district.
The senior boys volleyball team finished second place during their regionals, held in Estevan.
The senior boys defeated Moose Jaw Vanier 2-0 in their opening game, then defeated Balgonie Greenall 2-0. The boys picked up their third win, defeating Moose Jaw Peacock 2-0.
In the semi final matches, the senior boys won 2-0 against Estevan, but then lost 2-1 against Swift Current to take second place.
While the senior boys and senior girls Eagles team compete in the 5A provincial championship, there will be regional championships held for 1A, 2A, 3A and 4 A schools during the Nov. 18 to 19 weekend.
The following communities will be hosting regionals for the southeast district during the weekend: Yellow Grass hosts the 1A boys, Stoughton hosts the 2A boys and Oxbow hosts the 3A boys.
Gladmar hosts the 1A girls, Arcola hosts the 2A girls and Oxbow hosts the 3A girls. The SHSAA provincial tournaments for the 1A to 4 A boys and girls teams will be held on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 25 and 26.
