The Carnduff Red Devils beat the Bienfait Coalers 1-0 in overtime at the Bienfait Memorial Arena on Dec. 9 in a battle of the top two teams in the Big Six Hockey League.

Red Devils goaltender Cody Dumaine and Coalers netminder Jackson Walliser barred the doors through regulation, with Carnduff's Matt Audette finally finding the back of the net with 2:30 left to play in overtime. Red Devils captain Kody Martin picked up the only helper on the play.

The Coalers (7-1-1) didn't fare any better the next evening at the Redvers Rec Centre against the Rockets losing 5-2. The Rockets' Drew Hoff opened the scoring 7:45 into the first period, Craig Gaudet brought the score to 2-0 a little over six minutes later and Kelsey Kenler notched the game winner late in the second period. Chase McKersie scored both goals for the Coalers.

The Red Devils (6-2-1) could't carry any momentum from their big win over the Coalers into the Yellow Grass Communiplex on Dec. 11. The Wheat Kings (5-3-2) put up a 3-0 lead on markers by Justin Richter, Brendon Vertefeuille and Troy Miller before Devon Carriere got the Red Devils on the board. Wheat Kings' Corey Koski and Miller scored in the third period to give their side a 5-1 win.

Yellow Grass picked up their second win of the weekend in a come-from-behind 4-3 victory over the Midale Mustangs (2-6) at home on Dec. 8. With the Mustangs leading 3-1 on goals by Brad Tomiski, with two, and Adam Ziegler five minutes into the second period, Koski brought the score to within one late in the frame before Mike Onstad tied the match early in the third. Richter scored the winner with 2:30 left to play.

The Wawota Flyers (3-4) went 1-1 last weekend falling 3-2 to the Rockets (6-2) in Redvers on Dec. 8 before pounded the Carlyle Cougars 7-2 at the Wawota Community Forum two days later. Five members of the Flyers had two-point efforts in the game while Brett Turgeon and Ben Johnstone were the only players from Carlyle (2-7) able to beat Flyers goalie Scott Knelsen.

All eight teams will hit the ice this weekend with the Oxbow Huskies (2-4) kicking off the action with a tilt against the Flyers at Wawota on Friday before heading to Carnduff for a date with the Red Devils on Saturday. The Coalers are also on the road this weekend playing the Cougars on Friday and the Wheat Kings on Sunday. The Mustangs will stay at their home rink this weekend facing the Cougars on Saturday and the Flyers on Sunday.
