The Weyburn Red Wings continued to slide on a slight losing streak over the weekend, after dropping games to both Humboldt and Melville.
The Red Wings still sit in second place of the Viterra division of the Saskatchewan Junior League, but now only four points separate Weyburn from the third-place Yorkton Terriers. The Estevan Bruins have a dominating lead, now with an 11-point advantage over Weyburn.
The Red Wings lost 2-0 to the Broncos while playing in Humboldt on Friday evening. There was no scoring in the first period, then the Broncos scored a goal in each of the second and third periods.
Jake MacLennan was in net for the Red Wings. He stopped 21 out of 23 shots from the Broncos.
The Red Wings lost 6-1 to Melville during a home game on Saturday night.
Melville opened the game with one goal in the first period, then scored three times in the second period and twice in the third period. The lone Weyburn goal was scored by Ian Parker early in the third period.
Jake MacLennan and Shaun Fleming both spent time in net for the Red Wings. MacLennan stopped 10 out of 14 attempts, Fleming stopped five out of seven attempts.
The Red Wings will take their Christmas break, returning to action for the annual Tom Huston classic against the Estevan Bruins. This series starts with an away game in Estevan on Friday, Dec. 30, and then comes to Weyburn for a game on Jan. 1.
