The Weyburn Red Wings lost two home games, while competing against the Melville Millionaires and Nipawin Hawks. Meanwhile, their Highway 39 rivals, the Estevan Bruins, picked up a few wins over the weekend, and took over first place in the Viterra division with a two-point lead over Weyburn.
The Red Wings lost 3-2 to the Melville Millionaires during their home game on Friday night. Both teams scored a goal each in the first and second periods. Scoring for Weyburn was Ian Parker and Jacob Wozney during a power play. Melville scored the lone goal in the third period, securing their victory.
Shaun Fleming was in net for Weyburn, and stopped 28 shots out of 31 attempts.
Then the Red Wings lost 4-1 on Saturday night, during their home game against the Nipawin Hawks. Both teams scored one goal each in the first period, with Donavon Lumb scoring for Weyburn.
Neither team scored during the second period, then the Nipawin Hawks had a strong third period scoring three times, while keeping Weyburn from scoring again. Nathan Hargrave was in net for Weyburn, he stopped 28 out of 32 attempts.
The Red Wings were in Melfort on Tuesday night and will be in La Ronge tonight, October 26. During the weekend, the Red Wings will be in Flin Flon on Friday, October 28 and then in Nipawin on Saturday, October 29.
There is still time for residents to purchase a progressive 50/50 ticket, which helps support the Weyburn Red Wings and Weyburn Beavers. Tickets are available for $20 each, three for $50 or eight for $100. Tickets are available at the Red Wings office or Weimer’s Hometown.
The draw date for the progressive 50/50 is Friday, November 4 at Crescent Point Place, after the Red Wings’ home game against the Kindersley Klippers. The current pot is $32,580 and growing.
