Red Wings make CJHL Top 20 list

The Weyburn Red Wings were in the Top 30 weekly rankings for the Canadian Junior Hockey League, ranked 19th out of 20.
Right now, with a 9-3-0-1 record, the Weyburn Red Wings are second place overall in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, and have the lead in the Viterra division by two points over the second-place Estevan Bruins.
The Humboldt Broncos have the lead in the SJHL, they were ranked 15th place in the CJHL Top 20. The CJHL Top 20 weekly rankings are based upon a variety of factors, including the league in which the team plays, winning percentage, win-loss record, total points accumulated and goals-for versus goals-against ratio.
The CJHL represents 132 teams and over 3,000 players and has just as many former players furthering their hockey careers at the professional, major junior and college level across North America.
The Weyburn Red Wings secured two wins on Friday and Saturday evening, during home games. The Red Wings won a tight 4-3 game over the Battlefords North Stars on Friday evening.
Nathan Gelsinger and Jeremy Lagler both scored for Weyburn in the first period. Cole Woodliffe scored in the second period and Ian Parker scored in the third period. The North Stars scored one goal in each of the periods.
During Saturday’s game, the Weyburn Red Wings won 5-0 over the Flin Flon Bombers. Jacob Wozney scored a goal in the first period, Connor Burk, Tyran Brown and Donavon Lumb all scored in the second period, and Wozney scored a second goal in the third period.
Nathan Hargrave was in net for the Red Wings for both games, earning two more wins to his goaltending record. Hargrave is currently ranked fourth place in the Top Goalies for the SJHL, with a goal-against-average of 2.09.
The Weyburn Red Wings will host two games this weekend, hosting the Melville Millionaires on Friday, Oct. 21 and the Nipawin Hawks on Saturday, Oct. 22. Both games start at 7:30 p.m.
Then for the remainder of October, the Red Wings will have a four road games, visiting Melfort on Tuesday, Oct. 25 and LaRonge on Wednesday, Oct. 26.
