The Redvers Rockets won a pair of games in the Big Six Hockey League on the weekend, as they try to keep pace with the league-leading Carnduff Red Devils.
Redvers (7-1) routed the Arcola-Kisbey Combines 13-4 on Dec. 13, and then edged the Carlyle Cougars 6-5 two nights later.
The Rockets scored four times in each of the first two periods, and five times in the third against the Combines. It was a 2-2 game at one point in the first, but then the Rockets scored five straight goals in an 18-minute span of the first and second periods.
Kenton Miller had a whopping 10-point night, with three goals and seven assists. Kelsey Kealer and Jordon Miller had three goals apiece, while Travis Dumaine, Travis Poirier, Brady Gaudet and Koltyn Miller also scored.
Derek Fleck had two of Arcola-Kisbey’s goals. Ryan Kulyk and Duane Hislop were the other scorers.
It was a much closer game against Carlyle, as Gaudet scored twice and Justin Perreaux had the winner with less than six minutes to play in the third. Kenton Miller, Jordon Miller and Gavin Martel had the other goals.
Carter Struthers had two goals and two assists for the Cougars. Brett Turgeon, Dakota Rose and Devon McGonical were the other scorers.
Carnduff improved their record to 9-0-1 with a 15-2 drubbing of the Kipling-Windthorst Oil Kings on Dec. 14. Derek Cooney scored the first two goals of the game and finished with three on the night. Sheldon Thompson, Shawn Gallant and Jason Boyes scored twice. Devon Carriere, Brandon Trask, Mark Moriarty, Barrett Dumaine, Connor Vermuelen and Nico Anderson had the other goals.

Other recent games saw Carlyle defeat the Oil Capitals 9-2 and the Wawota Flyers knock off the Yellow Grass Wheat Kings 5-2 on Dec. 13, and the Bienfait Coalers edge the Wheat Kings 5-4 on Dec. 14.
One game was slated for Dec. 19: Arcola-Kisbey at Yellow Grass. (Results were not available at press time).
Carnduff and Redvers are in the top two spots in the league, but the rest of the standings are bunching up. Carlyle (5-5) sits in third, but Wawota and Yellow Grass are tied for fourth at 4-3, and Bienfait (4-4) is also right there. Those teams have games in hand on the Cougars. The Midale Mustangs (3-5) are seventh, the Oil Capitals (1-7) are eighth and the Combines (1-9) are last.
Eight games are scheduled for Dec. 20-23, and then the league will take a break for Christmas.
Games on Dec. 20 are Midale at Bienfait, Redvers at Carnduff and Carlyle at Kipling-Windthorst.
Four games on Dec. 21 include Carlyle at Yellow Grass, Kipling-Windthorst at Arcola-Kisbey, Wawota at Redvers and Bienfait at Midale.
The lone game for Dec. 23 is Carlyle at Wawota.
