A special Tackle Hunger program will be held during the Saskatchewan Roughriders game at Mosaic Stadium on Sunday, August 13.
Roughrider fans attending the August 13th game are encouraged to bring either a non-perishable food item or cash donation in support of the Regina Food Bank.
The Tackle Hunger program will collect money and food to help vulnerable citizens living in Regina and area.
Through the Purolator Tackle Hunger program, Purolator works closely with its employees, partners, agents, customers and food banks across Canada to help raise awareness and collect donations – through activities such as food drives at select CFL games — to help address the issue of hunger in Canada.
“It is important to all our employees to support the Tackle Hunger program. We feel the need to support and give to our communities, where we work and where we live,” said Lisa Gaspar, Purolator spokesperson.
“It is unfortunate that so many people in our country deal with hunger issues,” added Gaspar. “There is no true demographics of who uses the food bank, as it can be anyone, any family who are struggling to pay for groceries.”
In return for a non-perishable food item or cash donation given at the game, donors will have a chance to win an autographed Kevin Glenn jersey, and get a photo opportunity with the Grey Cup. Also, those fans who share their Grey Cup photos on Twitter using #tacklehunger will also be entered into a draw for game tickets for later in the season.
“The Tackle Hunger program is definitely a win-win for the Regina Food Bank, and for fans that donate to the cause,” said Gaspar.
This is the 15th annual Tackle Hunger program. Hunger affects millions of Canadians. This year, Purolator has set a donation target to raise the equivalent of 1.4 million pounds of food, and is committed to delivering on promises to all our stakeholders, which includes making a positive difference in communities across Canada.
According to a recent report, in 2016 Saskatchewan food banks had an increase of 17.5 per cent in overall usage compared to the previous year.
