The regular season for the Saskota Baseball League is finished, and now the top eight teams are preparing for the Harbourne Memorial Tournament, which will crown the league champion.
The season concluded on Tuesday night with a trio of games. The Estevan Tower Wolves defeated the Wawota Pats 8-3, the Carnduff Astros beat the Redvers A’s 14-4, and the Carlyle Cardinals outscored the Lampman Pirates 16-9.
The games on Tuesday night wrapped up a frantic stretch of baseball that saw three games played in each of the final three nights of the season. Teams pressed hard to play all 18 games in their schedules. Many of the games that were played were rescheduled from earlier in the season.
On Monday night, the Cardinals shut out the A’s 14-0, the Astros edged the Oxbow Chiefs 10-8 and the Tower Wolves beat the Windthorst Pirates 7-2.
The previous day, the Kenosee Cubs won twice at home, defeating the Pats 7-1 and the Tower Wolves 11-5. The Pats then travelled to Carlyle, where they lost 15-8 to the Cardinals.
Two games were also played last Friday, as the Tower Wolves outscored the Windthorst Pirates 17-11, and the Astros and Pats played to a 3-3 tie.
The Cardinals finished first in the regular season with a 15-3 record. They will be the top-seeded team for the Harbourne Memorial Tournament. They are also looking for their third consecutive Saskota Baseball League title.
Joining them in their pool will be the fourth-seeded Astros, who finished with a record of 9-7-2, the fifth-seeded Cubs (8-8-2), and the eighth-seeded A’s (6-11-1).
The other pool will boast the second-seeded Tower Wolves (13-4-1), the No. 3 Chiefs (10-5-3), the No. 6 Arcola Threshers (8-9-1) and the No. 7 Pats (7-9-2).
Two teams did not qualify for the tournament: the Lampman Pirates, who finished ninth with a 5-13 record; and the Windthorst Pirates, who were last in the standings in their first season in the Saskota with a 3-15 record.
The Harbourne Memorial Tournament will run from July 22 to 24 at Kenosee Lake. There will be a round-robin portion, in which teams will play the other squads in their pools, and the top teams from each pool will advance to the playoff round.
