Sharks excel at provincials

The Estevan Sharks water polo club won gold medals in the 12U co-ed division and the 14U girls age category, at the spring provincials in Saskatoon on March 28 and 29.

The 14U Sharks water polo team went undefeated all season, including provincials.

The Estevan Sharks water polo club won gold medals in the 12U co-ed division and the 14U girls age category, at the spring provincials in Saskatoon on March 28 and 29.

Before the provincial tournament began, the 12U team played a game against the Winnipeg Neptunes and fell 22-3.

In their first game of the provincial tournament, the 12U Sharks defeated Regina Armada 17-9, and also earned a 12-8 win over the Weyburn Hurricanes in their second game.

Estevan also earned a victory over Saskatoon, defeating them 8-4. In the provincial final, the Sharks, were, again matched up against Saskatoon and beat them 8-6.

Cameron Gillingham led the scoring with four goals, and Katyrna Heleta and Maria Baniulis tallied two goals each. 

The 14U girls team went undefeated in the regular season, and they also did not lose a game in provincials as well. 

They played Weyburn in their first game of the tournament and beat them 12-8. In their following game, the Sharks won 9-7 against Armada Grey, and they also had a victory against Armada Orange, beating them 14-10. 

In the final, they played Weyburn and defeated them 15-8 to win gold. Taeghen Hack and Emily Marshall led the scoring with seven goals each and Charlotte Andrist contributed with one goal. 

Matthew Getschel played with the Saskatoon 15U boys team.  They finished the tournament with bronze, despite losing all of their games.

Taeghen Hack and Emily Marshall competed with the Armada Open Women’s League and earned silver.
