In the middle of what has been a very successful season, the Prairie Boys and Prairie Girls 14U National Championship League (NCL) Water Polo teams – which both feature heavy participation from the Estevan Sharks Water Polo teams – travelled to Winnipeg this weekend to face off against their Manitoba opponents and both teams did not disappoint coming away with three straight victories for each teams.
To start off the weekend the Prairie Boys hit the water and after half time the game was tight at 8-6 for the Prairie team. The boys endurance training definitely showed up and they overcame their opponents in a 13-11 win for the first game of the weekend. In the second match of the day the boys dove into the game with strong defence that the Winnipeg boys could not beat and once again the boys won 8-4. On Sunday, the boys hit the water early for their final game of the weekend and in the final quarter they were up by only one goal, they maintained their lead for the final five minutes of the game and came out victorious again with a 12-11 win. The boys have played an amazing season so far with an 8-0 record and that puts them in first place for their division as they work their way towards the Western Canada Finals.
The Prairie Girls found themselves dominating in the water against Team Manitoba. They played extremely well with three amazing wins of 18-0, 14-0 and 15-2. The team will be in Regina where they will get a chance to play the Regina girls and Winnipeg girls once again. The Prairie Girls have also played an amazing season so far, also with an 8-0 record.
The next round of play for all 14U NCL players is next weekend in Regina, where they will face off against the Regina and Winnipeg teams.
