The Estevan KPC mosquito AAA Sluggers won one of four games they played at home during the weekend.
The Sluggers dropped both games against the White Butte Broncos in a doubleheader on Saturday, and split a doubleheader with the Regina Buffaloes on Sunday. (Scores were not available from the games).
Coach Andrew Sinclair noted they had a two-hour rain delay before the first game against White Butte, and started slowly once play began. They were much better in the second contest against the Broncos.
“We came out looking really good on Sunday morning, and we’re back on track to improving,” said Sinclair.
In three of the four games, the Sluggers hit double digits for runs scored. They were very good when they had runners on base, and they had some good pitching performances.
“Defensively, we definitely made some really good plays, grabbed a couple of double plays here and there, and had some solid performances from most of the boys in the majority of the games,” said Sinclair.
A lot of the players have made some big improvements this season, he said. The effort is good and they’re having fun.
Their next competition will be a tournament in Weyburn this weekend. They will play the host Weyburn Beavers, and then they will play the Swift Current 57s. Those results will determine who they play next.
There will also be a skills competition, which Sinclair said should be fun for the players.
