The Estevan Motor Speedway’s board of directors has made the difficult decision to cancel the season-opening double-header event that was scheduled for May 1 and 2.
In a post on its Facebook page Tuesday night, the speedway said the decision was based on the current restrictions placed by the provincial government that prohibit gatherings larger than 10 people.
“We would like to remind everyone that cancelling events is our last course of action. However, our priority is the safety and well being of our fans, volunteers, and drivers.”
Going forward the track will determine the plans for races on a case by case basis. Their next program is slated for May 22.
The COVID-19 pandemic will adversely affect the whole 2020 season in one way or another, the speedway said in the Facebook post.
“The board has had a pretty progressive brainstorming session, and they are working hard to put together some strategies to ensure we will be able to race, in some form or another, once the restrictions are lifted.”
