The South East Sun Devils U16 A Softball Club won the bronze medal at the provincial tournament in Saskatoon this weekend.
The Sun Devils beat their rivals, the Regina Saints, 6-5 in a seven-inning game.
Katelyn Zukewich was on the mound for the full seven innings for the Sun Devils, while Brooke Gardiner and Rayelle Cooley each scored three times.
The Sun Devils opened provincials with three consecutive wins to finish first in their pool. Up first was an 8-7 victory over the Saints on Friday. Then they rattled off two impressive wins on Saturday, defeating the Prince Albert Aces 16-9 and the Saskatoon Phantoms 10-0 in four innings to advance to the semifinal round.
The South East entry dropped a 6-2 decision to the Saskatoon Raiders to send them to the bronze medal game.
The Sun Devils won’t have long to celebrate their medal. They will open the playoffs on Monday against the Regina Royals.
