Two athletes from the Weyburn Synchro Stars have recently qualified for the 2016-2017 High Performance Program with Synchro Saskatchewan.
Savannah Pohl and Alexis Vandermey have both qualified for the High Performance Program. The HP Trials were held June 11 in Saskatoon. The trials were the final test event for the season and the selection for the HP athletes.
The High Performance Program is a Synchro Saskatchewan initiative that develops elite level, high performance athletes with funding from Synchro Sask. and Sask. Sport.
Pohl and Vandermey were also chosen for the Synchro Saskatchewan 2016 Development Team.
The development team is a new program initiative that identifies, develops and provides additional training hour and skill development for Development Athletes who are not quite at the provincial team level or who did not qualify for the provincial team.
The development team is composed of the top eight athletes eligible for the 2019 Canada Winter Games, based on current age eligibility rules. The Development Team will have a three-day training camp in Saskatoon from August 27 to 29.
