Team South East has won its first two medals at the 2016 Saskatchewan Summer Games in Estevan, and both came in athletics.
Joelyn Welburn won silver in the female long jump event with a distance of 5.27 metres. And Taylor Sergeant of Carlyle won bronze in the female 100-metre hurdles. (Time was not immediately available).
The host team also thrived on the baseball diamond early on Monday, as Team South East routed Saskatoon 12-2 in their opening game at Cactus Park. Dillon Hull of Alameda pitched a complete game in the victory.
They will play Team Lakeland at 6 p.m. at Cactus Park.
On the basketball court, Team South East had mixed results. The female team routed Team Prairie Central 72-17. Their next game is against Team Rivers West at 8 p.m. at Affinity Place.
The male basketball team lost 50-40 to Team Lakeland. They will play Parkland Valley at 5 p.m. at Affinity Place.
The female soccer team split their two games today. They lost 5-2 to Team Lakeland in their first game, but regrouped to defeat Prairie Central 3-1. Their next game is at 10 a.m. on Tuesday morning against Saskatoon at Cactus Park.
Local athletes have also been competing in archery and triathlon. Results for local athletes were not immediately available.
