A few teams from southeast Saskatchewan were entered in curling provincials last weekend.
Brayden Stewart, competing out of the Oxbow Curling Club, went 5-3 at the Tim Hortons mixed provincials at the Meadow Lake Curling Club from March 22 to 26.
Stewart opened provincials with a 7-6 win in an extra end over Kyle Cherpin, who was competing out of Regina’s Callie Curling Club, but then Stewart lost 8-0 in three ends to Dave Wetsch from the Weyburn Curling Club.
Stewart recovered to defeat Josh Heidt from Saskatoon’s Nutana Curling Club 7-2 in seven ends, but dropped a 7-5, seven-end decision to Jason Ackerman from Regina’s Highland Curling Club, putting Stewart on the brink of elimination.
Relegated to the C event, Stewart scored twice in the eighth and final end in a 7-6 win over Brock Montgomery of the Highland Curling Club, stole one in the eighth end for a 6-5 victory over Tyson Williamson from the Callie Curling Club, and routed Cherpin 7-1 in five ends in one of the C finals.
Stewart’s run came to an end when he faced the other C event qualifier, Shawn Joyce of the Nutana Curling Club. Joyce scored twice in the second end and never relinquished the lead in a 5-3, seven-end victory.
Other members of Stewart’s rink were third Chaelynn Kitz, second Anthony Neufeld and lead Renee Michaud.
The Wade St. Onge rink, competing out of the Power Dodge Curling Centre in Estevan, went 0-3 at mixed provincials. St. Onge lost 8-3 in seven ends to Montgomery, 6-5 in an extra end to Heidt’s rink, and 10-2 in six ends to Kyle Cherpin from Regina’s Callie Curling Club.
Other members of the St. Onge rink were third Taylor Marcotte, second Tye Olson and lead Deanna Marcotte.

At the Ramada Hotel Under-18 provincials at the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre, a team skipped by Rachel Kramer represented the Power Dodge Curling Centre in the open division.
They went 2-1 in a round-robin that opened the competition. Provincials didn’t start well for the Kramer rink, as they lost 7-1 in six ends to Cody Sutherland from the Rosetown Curling Club. But the Kramer rink regrouped to win their next two games, scoring four in the eighth end to win 9-4 over Gavin Steckler from Saskatoon’s Sutherland Curling Club, and then earning a 7-0 shutout over Briana Beattie from Regina’s Callie Curling Club.
Other members of the Kramer rink were third Jaedon Miller, second Caitlyn Greene and Myles Stepp.
