The Power Dodge Estevan Bruins erupted for six goals in the third period to blow out the Melville Millionaires 7-2 on Wednesday night at the Horizon Credit Union Centre in Melville.
The game was tied at 1-1 entering the third period.
Levi Barnstable gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead with 93 seconds to play in the first period, but Aaron Aragon tied the game 4:23 into the middle frame.
Michael McChesney scored on a power play 2:26 into the third period to lift the Bruins into the lead. Zach Goberis scored doubled the advantage a little more than six minutes later.
Then the floodgates opened up, as the Bruins scored three times in less than two minutes.
Jason Miller tallied at the 12:25 mark for a 4-1 Bruin advantage. Jayden Davis upped the lead to four 18 seconds later, and Barnstable notched his second of the game 81 seconds after Davis’ goal.
Tucker Scantlebury scored for Melville 31 seconds after Barnstable’s second goal, and then the Bruins Mark McNeil rounded out the scoring with 3:35 to play in the game.
Fifteen of the 18 skaters the Bruins dressed for the game registered at least one point.
Nathan Alalouf stopped 22 shots to get the win in net for the Bruins. Colby Entz made 34 saves for the Millionaires.
Prior to the game, Melville traded defenceman Eric Sinclair to the Flin Flon Bombers for future considerations. It’s the second time this season that Sinclair has been dealt the same day he was supposed to be in the lineup against the Bruins.
During the SJHL Showcase in September, Sinclair was dealt from the Melfort Mustangs to the Millionaires, as part of the futures stemming from a deal in January.
Sinclair was named the top defenceman in the league last season.
With the win, the Bruins improved their record to 9-3-1, which leaves them tied with the Weyburn Red Wings for top spot in the Viterra Division. Melville’s record is 5-8-0-1.
The Bruins next game is Oct. 21 at Affinity Place when they will host the Nipawin Hawks at 7:30 p.m. Then the Yorkton Terriers will visit Estevan at 7 p.m. on Oct. 25.
