“I would like to say how excited we are to host this Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame dinner this summer in Weyburn,” said Val Tribiger, chair of the host committee.
“This is going to be a great event as we honour this excellent class of inductees while highlighting our wonderful city.”
The Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame is located in Swift Current. Each year inductees are selected from five categories: builders, grassroots, officials, players, and teams.
This year will see Orland Kurtenbach, Terry Harper, Colleen Sostorics, and Bob Turner inducted into the players category.
Builders will include former Red Wings head coach Dwight McMillan, former Red Wings manager Ron Rumball, Barry Mackenzie, and Terry O’Malley.
Jules Swick is the lone official being inducted, and the legendary Weyburn’s Tom Huston will be honoured in the Grassroots category.
The two teams being inducted into the Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame are the 1956-57 Flin Flon Bombers, and the 1983-84 Centennial Cup champion Weyburn Red Wings.
The event is being presented by the Weyburn Red Wings, the City Of Weyburn, the Saskatchewan Hockey Association, and the Saskatchewan Hockey Hall Of Fame.
To book tables or for questions contact the Red Wing Office, or contact the event committee chair-person, Val Tribiger.
The Weyburn Red Wings opponent for the quarter finals of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) was determined on Tuesday night.
After completing their regular season on Saturday, with a 4-1 loss to the Estevan Bruins on home ice, the Red Wings were ranked as the third-place team in the overall league.
During the last regular season games on Tuesday night, there were still a few points needed to decide who would earn sixth place and be the Red Wings opponent in the quarter finals.
The Estevan Bruins were hosting Notre Dame, and the Flin Flon Bombers were hosting Nipawin.
An Estevan loss, or wins from both Estevan and Flin Flon would rank the Bruins sixth place.
An Estevan win and a loss by Flin Flon would ranke the Bombers as sixth place.
There will be some time before the quarter finals, since the best-of-five Wild Card Series can start as early as Thursday.
In the Wild Card Series, the La Ronge Ice Wolves will have home ice advantage against the Yorkton Terriers.
Also, the Kindersley Klippers will have home ice advantage against Notre Dame.
