Brendon LaBatte brought 12 of his Saskatchewan Roughriders teammates to the Weyburn Golf Course for the Weyburn and District Hospital Foundation charity golf tournament held on July 17.
Chair of the golf tournament Michael Hoffman estimated the tournament raised approximately $175,000, although the final numbers are not in.
The money raised from the tournament will add to the fund for building and equipping a new hospital in Weyburn.
"The tournament went really well. The golf ran a lot smoother and faster than in the past. As well, we had more people come out," said Hoffman. "A few hole sponsors held barbeques and the weather was perfect for the tournament."
The Weyburn Youngfellows prepared the prime rib dinner where three of the Riders were auctioned off to sit at tables. Chris Getzlaf went for the highest price at $5,000.
"It was awesome to have 13 Riders come down for the tournament and to have 11 stay for supper," said Hoffman. "It's great that they came to support Brendon and the Foundation."
In the auction at the end of the night, the big ticket item was a home theatre package from New Age Electronics which went for $7,900 and the Derek Pouliot jersey which sold for $5,000.
The Riders who came down for the tournament were: Brendon LaBatte; Dan Clark; Taj Smith; Ben Heenan; Corey Watman; Chris Getzlaf; Rob Bagg; Sam Hurl; Brian Peters; Terrell Maze; Jerome Messam; Seth Doege; and Levy Adcock.
