Three athletes are enshrined in TS&M Woodlawn Golf Club membership history after completing two days of outstanding play on the course during the club's annual championship weekend.

Brock Simpson, Meghan Betnar and Mike Ross emerged as the club champions last Sunday after two rounds of play. The golfers achieved the best total gross scores in the two-day men's flight, ladies flight and senior men's flight events.

“I play a lot of golf here, so it's certainly nice to play well in our flagship event for the members,” said Simpson after winning his first club championship. “It was a good steady two rounds of golf. I did leave a couple shots out there, but who doesn't.”

Amanda Minchin, head golf professional at TS&M Woodlawn, said the annual club championship weekend is a tradition at the course and has been held every summer since the club was founded. She said it brings available members of the golf club together to play their best game over a two-day period.

Twenty-two golfers competed in the men's flight with Simpson tallying the best score after each round. He hit a par 71 on the first day of play, before striking a 73 on the second putting him 2-over for the weekend and five strokes ahead of second place finisher Nolan Rohatyn.

Betnar hit her stride on the second day of play by hitting a score of 82 in the ladies flight. She bested the eight other competitors in the event with a score of 92 after Round 1 for a total of 32-over 174, leaving her seven strokes ahead of the nearest player.

In the senior men's flight, Ross finished the event with total score of six-over after shooting a 74 on both days of play. Keith Ramstead took second place in the event with a score of 12-over 154.

“I really didn't have any spectacular shots,” said Ross, noting this is his first senior men's club championship. “It was just kind of steady golf.”
