TS&M Woodlawn Golf Club will be bustling over the coming months and its general manager will be just as active with his new duties as president of Golf Saskatchewan.
Kyle Mulligan was nominated by the Golf Saskatchewan board of directors to take over the role of president of the organization at their annual general meeting at Willows Golf and Country Club in Saskatoon on April 16. Mulligan, who was the Golf Saskatchewan vice-president in 2015, will serve as president for a two-year term.
“As the president of the association my duties are to be one of the leaders of the organization and to work closely with the staff at the Golf Saskatchewan office in Saskatoon, our executive director Brian Lee and our sport development officer Dwayne Yachiw,” said Mulligan, noting serving as president will not affect his work at TS&M Woodlawn Golf Club. “Most of my role is to provide some guidance and leadership to the board of directors and to the staff and to help grow the game provincially.”
Mulligan said as president of Golf Saskatchewan he will have more responsibility on the national level dealing with Golf Canada, sitting on a few different advisory boards, the provincial council and the president's council as well. He added it is an exciting time to be both the president of Golf Saskatchewan with the 2016 Olympic Games scheduled for Aug. 5 to 21 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and the province having two golf professionals in Graham DeLaet and Adam Hadwin who might participate, and the general manager of TS&M Woodlawn Golf Club, which will have be home to a mini-Olympics' style competition of its own.
The Estevan 2016 Saskatchewan Summer Games' golf competition will be run at the golf club from July 24 to 27. The month of July will also see a Maple Leaf Junior Tour Tournament being staged at the club from July 2 to 3 and the Golf Saskatchewan Junior Provincial Championships following a little more than one week later.
Over the course of the spring, summer and fall golf season, TS&M Woodlawn will also feature its staple events in the Estevan OTS (Oilfield Technical Society) Tournament from June 3 to 5, the FrameTech Men's and Ladies' Classic from July 30 to Aug. 1 and the club's regular men's nights, ladies' nights and championship events.
“It's always great to get open early, get people talking about the game, get people out of their house playing and doing something different,” said Mulligan, noting the club opened to the public on April 8 this year thanks to the warm spring weather. “Things have been quite well-received by the members. We're seeing lots of new faces around here. I think because of the economy some people have some more time to be able to spend doing some recreational activities within the city, so we've seen a little bit of influx of some newer faces around here, which has been great.”
