The Southeast Performance Pump midget AAA Twins picked up one of a possible four wins during double-headers on the weekend.
The Twins split home games against the Saskatoon Giants on Saturday at Lynn Prime Park. The first game was a 7-3 loss to the Giants.
The Giants scored one in the first inning and four in the second to lead 5-0, but the Twins responded with three of their own in the third. Saskatoon pulled away with one in the fourth and another in the sixth.
Rhett Krafchuk, Tyren Dorrance and Hudson Neuberg each had two hits for the Twins.
Jayke Smolinski allowed seven runs in six innings, and also struck out three.
The Twins responded with a 4-2 win in Game 2 against the Giants. They scored once in each of the first and second innings to lead 2-0, and then after allowing a run in the third, added two of their own in the bottom of the inning.
Neither team would score again until the Giants tallied once in the top of the seventh.
Kieran Stewart and Tyren Dorrance each drove in a run for the Twins.
Boston Walker allowed one run and struck out three in five innings for the Twins, while Alex Kerr gave up a run in two innings.
The Twins suffered two close losses to the host Swift Current 57s on Sunday. The first was a 9-8 decision, a game the Twins led 6-0 through four innings, and 8-4 entering the bottom of the seventh and final stanza.
Justin VanAchte hit a two-run home run for the Twins, and Twins had runs from seven different players.
Burke Lyons gave up four runs, three of them earned, in 4 1/3 innings, while Hudson Neuberger gave up five runs, two of them earned, in 2 1/3 innings.
Swift Current scored its final two runs of the game on an error with two outs.
The 57s scored three times in the third and added one in the fourth for a 4-2 win in the second game. Aiden Krafchuk and Jayke Smolinski each had two hits for the Twins, and Smolinski scored twice.
Ty Nikolejsin gave up four runs and struck out two in five innings, and Rylan Erb pitched a scoreless sixth.
The Twins are scheduled to visit the Regina WolfPack on May 29 at 6 p.m. Then they will host Swift Current on June 2 at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. in Estevan.
