Update: Midget AA Goldwings advance, will face Swift Current

The South East Aaron Well Servicing midget AA Goldwings have advanced to the South Division final in the Saskatchewan Female Hockey League playoffs.

The Goldwings scored three times in the third period to pull away and defeat the Notre Dame Hounds 5-1 Saturday at the Harry O Memorial Arena in Midale in Game 3 of their best of three series.

The Goldwings came out flying and Marci LeBlanc scored halfway through the first period to give them the lead. Notre Dame scored towards end of the first to tie it up.

LeBlanc notched her second of the game in the second for a 2-1 lead through two.

Madi Doud had her first goal of the season in the third to give the Goldwings some insurance, and Khloe Bedore and Kenra Kotylak added empty net goals for the Goldwings.

Kara Zelyck was in net for the win.

Notre Dame won Game 1 3-2 in overtime Sunday in Midale. But the Goldwings responded with a 3-0 win Friday night in Wilcox to keep their season alive and force Saturday’s Game 3.

In Game 2, Kotalyk scored late in the first period to give the Goldwings a 1-0 lead, and Dalis Prawdzik doubled the lead with a goal late in the second. Bedore’s goal six minutes into the third put the game away.

Zelyck earned the shutout in goal.

The Goldwings will face the Swift Current Wildcats in the best of three South Division final. A schedule for the series has yet to be finalized.
