The Crescent Point Energy Western Canada Cup (WCC) organinzing committee released details of the financial picture of the April 30 to May 8 tournament in Estevan this past week.

Although there are still items to sort out or potential bills to pay, the WCC organizing committee is making a payment of $40,000 to each of the three parties they initially committed to. The committe began this process by presenting a cheque for $40,000 to the Estevan 2016 Saskatchewan Summer Games at the Estevan Farmer's Market on Saturday morning.

A further $40,000 will be presented to the WCC host CanElson Drilling Estevan Bruins at a later date. The third $40,000 cheque will be given to the SJHL with the money split evenly among the 11 remaining teams.

The WCC orgainizing committee still has a non-profit corporation to wrap up and may have tax implications with that, but indicated they have a good handle on the remaining expenses and are confident making this $120,000 payment. A couple of commitments made in the WCC bid package and fundraising efforts will also be honoured.

The Legacy Project that is being led by City of Estevan employee Jeff Ward and Rotary President Cody Schrader will be a significant event advertising board in the parking lot of Affinity Place. An additional pedestal at the outside of the library as you enter the facility will list out the corporate sponsors that financed the tournament. There will also be a display board in the enterance to the facility that will service as a permanent legacy of the WCC in Estevan. The WCC initially committed $25,000 to this project with the City of Estevan matching this contribution, but additional funds will be allocated to ensure the display board is of the highest quality.

The WCC organizing committee, with Ray Frehlick, Barry Bridges, Warren Waldegger and Ron Areshenkoff, would like to thank the entire community for their support, assistance and involvement for helping make the tournament a financial success. Thanks are also extended to City of Estevan mayor Roy Ludwig as well as council and staff, the Estevan Bruins executive and staff, various service clubs including the Rotary, Kinsmen, Strippers hockey team, Bruins Alumni Association, Estevan Comprehensive School music department, Estevan Skating Club, MNP 50/50 and Hockey Ministries, the business community, individual hockey fans, Curtis Hack and the Iron Chefs, Brian Burke and the Calgary Flames hockey club, Eddie Wester's/Barry Bridges Law Firm and staff for the wine event and finally to the 50-plus corporate sponsors that provided a $7,500 contribution to help finance this tournament.
