WEYBURN – The Weyburn Iron Pigs were swept in two straight games by the Regina Trappers in the finals for the Qu’Appelle Valley Baseball League, with a 10-0 loss in Regina on Aug. 30, and a 6-3 loss on Thursday evening in Weyburn.
In Game 2, Luke Niemegeers pitched for all seven innings, allowing five hits and six runs, and getting seven strike-outs.
The Trappers led 3-1 by the end of the third inning, both teams added two runs each in the fifth inning, and Regina finished the game off with another run in the seventh inning to win the league championship.
Troy Miller, Brian McFarlane and Adam Ziegler each scored a run, with Miller getting one hit, Brad Weisgerber had three, Will Morris had two, Niemegeers and McFarlane each had one.
In the first game, Mike Onstad and Ziegler each pitched for two innings. Onstad allowed eight hits and seven runs with two strike-outs, while Ziegler allowed four hits and three runs, and had one strike-out.
While Weyburn had no runs, they had six hits on the game, with one each by Miller, Weisgerber, Morris, Ketter Hoium, Evan Schultz and Ziegler.
