The Weyburn Comprehensive School Eagles have taken the lead in the McLeod Series.
Weyburn’s senior girls basketball team defeated the Estevan Comprehensive School Elecs 67-59 Wednesday evening at the ECS gymnasium. Weyburn now leads the best-of-four series 2-1, and has a five-point lead, 202-197, in point differential.
Point differential serves as the tie-breaker if each team wins twice.
Estevan held a 26-22 lead late in the second quarter, but Weyburn charged back to lead 29-28 at half time. The Eagles scored the first 10 points of the third quarter, but then Estevan went on a 13-1 run to lead 41-40.
Weyburn had a 44-43 lead after three quarters.
The Eagles then outscored Estevan 23-16 in the fourth quarter, punctuated by a buzzer-beating three-pointer at the end of the game.
The senior boys basketball game will close out this year’s series. The game started at 7:30 p.m.
