Weyburn U18 Wings lose provincial series with overtime heart-breaker

Series decided with overtime sudden death after each team won a game

WEYBURN – The Weyburn U18A Provincial Wings travelled to Swift Current to face the Broncos in game 2 of their SGI Provincial playoff series on Sunday afternoon.

They dropped a 4-3 decision and that forced the deciding mini-game. Scoring for Weyburn was Carter Gervais from Jack Bobier and Liam Maloney, Jyler Goebel from Wyatt Ebel, and Brandon Morrice from Liam Maloney and Trent Benning. Tim Rosengren was between the pipes. 

The mini game began with a 10-minute period. After the 10 minutes, the score was 1-1. Wyatt Godlonton scored from Caden Dennis.

The game then went to a 20-minute sudden death period. After a chance for a goal by Weyburn right off the face-off, Swift Current went up the ice and beat goaltender Josh Wiens with the rebound, winning the series 2-1.

The team is a combination of the Barber Motors U18 team and the Aldon Oils U18 team.

The Weyburn U18A Wings team doubled down on the Swift Current Broncos on Wednesday night 4-2 at Crescent Point Place, in the first of the two-game series of the SHA provincial playoffs.

Scoring for Weyburn were Matthew Charlton from Jonah Nimegeers; Morrice from Benning and Godlonton; Karston Geiger from Nimegeers, and Chase Dennis from Goebel and Wyatt Ebel.

Wiens was in net for the game, and made 27 saves on 29 shots.
