Weyburnite Brett Jones signs in the NFL

Weyburn hometown boy and former offensive lineman of the Grey Cup champion Calgary Stampeders, Brett Jones, has signed with the New York Giants of the National Football League.


At 6 ft. 2 and 315 pounds, Jones has played his last two seasons for Calgary. In 2013, he was named the Canadian Football League's Most Outstanding Rookie and also was the recipient of the Jackie Parker trophy for the Most Outstanding Rookie in the CFL west division. In 2014, Brett was named the league's Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman, CFL all-star and was part of the 2014 Grey Cup champion Calgary Stampeders.


"It has always been a goal and a dream of mine to play in the NFL," said Jones. "This is the first step, and I look forward to taking many more.


Jones was Calgary's second-round choice (16th overall selection) in the 2013 CFL draft after playing for the Regina Rams.
