Yellow Grass Wheat Kings leading scorer Brendan Vertefeuille was on fire this past weekend.
Vertefeuille scored three goals and picked up a helper in the Wheat Kings 5-0 win over the Carlyle Cougars at the Carlyle Sports Arena on Friday. Two days later, Vertefeuille opened the scoring for the Wheat Kings (9-4-4), added a second early into the third period and recorded an assist late to help the team beat the Wawota Flyers 11-2 at the Yellow Grass Communiplex.
The Flyers loss came 48 hours after they potted nine goals against the Redvers Rockets (9-6) at the Wawota Community Forum. The Rockets scored five of their own against Wawota with Jordon Miller notching two of the markers while also recording two assists.
The Cougars (2-15) fared better at home against the Midale Mustangs (6-10-1) on Saturday, but the end result proved the same. The Mustangs beat the Cougars 5-4 scoring all of their goals in the second period.
The Mustangs lost 7-3 to the Bienfait Coalers at the Midale Harry O. Memorial Arena in their second contest of the weekend on Friday. The Coalers spread their offence around in the match with seven different players getting on the scoresheet.
The Big Six Hockey League leading Coalers (13-3-1) suffered a 4-2 loss to the Carnduff Red Devils (10-7-1) at the Carnduff Fast Trucking Centennial Arena on Saturday. The Red Devils' Kody Martin notched the game winner 4:05 into the second period putting an end to their three game losing streak.
The Wheat Kings will look to keep up their high scoring ways this weekend when the team travels to the Oxbow Arena to face the Huskies (7-8) on Friday before stopping in Midale on Saturday for a date with the Mustangs. The Huskies hit the road after their meeting with the Wheat Kings heading to Wawota to play the Flyers (11-6-1).
The Rockets also have home and road games this weekend entertaining the Mustangs on Friday and playing the Cougars in Carlyle the next evening. The Flyers and Red Devils finish off the action on Sunday with a match in Carnduff.
