Wheat Kings in the winner's circle

After falling 6-2 to the Bienfait Coalers (2-0) at the Bienfait Memorial Arena in their first Big Six Hockey League game on Nov. 8, the Wheat Kings bounced back in a big way beating the Midale Mustangs 8-1 at the Midale Harry O. Memorial Arena on Saturday. The Wheat Kings (2-1) followed up the victory with a 6-5 overtime win over the Carnduff Red Devils (1-0-1) at the Carnduff Fast Trucking Centennial Arena on Sunday.

Dustin Chartrand led the way offensively for the Wheat Kings scoring one goal and assisting on three others against the Mustangs, while also potting another marker against the Red Devils. The Yellow Grass goaltending tandem of Tanner Erickson and Cameron Irwin each picked up a win on the road.

The Mustangs (1-3) redeemed themselves on Sunday by earning a 7-5 win over the Carlyle Cougars (0-2) at the Carlyle Sports Arena. Brad Tomiski scored four goals in the victory, while Tyler Hoium got four helpers.

The Redvers Rockets (2-1) beat the Wawota Flyers 3-1 at the Wawota Community Forum on Sunday in the final Big Six Hockey League game of the weekend. Bradey Fidierchuk and Jordon Miller, with two, provided the scoring for the Rockets with Riley Riddell notching the only marker for the Flyers (1-1).

The Wheat Kings stay on the road this weekend travelling to Carlyle for a Friday night tilt against the Cougars. The Mustangs and Flyers also play in opposition rinks on Friday with Midale meeting up with the Oxbow Huskies (1-1) at the Oxbow Arena and Wawota taking the ice against the Rockets.

The Mustangs head over to Bienfait on Saturday to take on the Coalers, while the Flyers travel to Carnduff for a date with the Red Devils. The Rockets and Red Devils do battle in Redvers in the only Sunday game.
