Wheat Kings win Game 1 of Big Six final

The Yellow Grass Wheat Kings defeated the Carnduff Red Devils 6-4 on Wednesday night to win Game 1 of the Big Six Hockey League final.

The Yellow Grass Wheat Kings defeated the Carnduff Red Devils 6-4 on Wednesday night to win Game 1 of the Big Six Hockey League final.

Brad Riege, Thomas Carleton, Brandon Vertefeuille, Tucker Neuberger, Drew Fellner and Devin Cobbold scored for Yellow Grass. Fellner and Neuberger scored less than 30 seconds apart in the third period to break open a 3-3 tie.

Blake McMillen, Nico Anderson, Cody Moore and Trevor Geiger responded for Carnduff.

The final is a best-of-five.

Game 2 will be March 19 and Game 3 will be played March 21. The dates have not been set for Games 4 and 5, if they’re needed.

Carnduff will be busy this weekend, though. They play the Wynyard Monarchs in the provincial Senior B South Final. Game 2 will be played in Wynyard on March 16, and Game 3, if necessary, would be March 17 in Carnduff at 4:30 p.m.
