Choosing a career as a politician can be difficult for any person. There is a delicate balance of life between serving the ‘public sector’, and supporting the party line. Politicians are often judged that they are too ‘ambitious’ or have a ‘power’ complex if they are implementing legislation too quickly, but on the reverse side if they don’t act on fulfilling their campaign promises, then the general public starts to wonder if that candidate is ‘lazy’.
It is important to admire and support those people who choose to represent their communities, no matter if it is at the federal, provincial or urban level.
Every political party has their own different ideas and suggestions for how they want to run things as a government. In Canada, with many different political parties scattered across the nation, there are many different opinions that are available. According to political policy in Canada, it is the party members themselves who select who would be best served to lead them.
The great thing about democracy is that there are a lot of different options on who to vote for. We are free to choose our representatives by voting in the way that we feel is best for our community.
Each community has the choice of selecting who will represent them at the urban, provincial or federal level. Sometimes that candidate will sit with the political party that wins the majority of votes to run government, and sometimes that candidate will be on the opposition party.
Every vote counts and that is what forms government. There has to be a balance between voicing an opinion of opposition, and one that is simply a cynical and overly negative message against the political party that is in power.
We must regain that level of respect for others in our community, and consider rude and disrespectful behaviour as something that is unacceptable. We should sit up and take notice when others are being rude, or using expletives when speaking to other community members, especially those who choose to sit in a political aspect. There is simply no reasonable explanation to act that way to another person.
This is especially important to remember for those politicians who are chosen as leaders of their party. They carry a heavy weight on their shoulders of responsibility, and are the person who is congratulated when something good happens, or insulted when something bad happens.
The ‘Golden Rule’ still applies when it comes to these situations. Don’t say or post disrespectful things to someone else, if you wouldn’t want to hear or see those same words directed to you
