Father’s Day fun

Father’s Day is coming up (and so is my birthday. On the same day this year. I won’t go into how I feel about having to share my day). I love to celebrate the people in my life.

Father’s Day is coming up (and so is my birthday. On the same day this year. I won’t go into how I feel about having to share my day).

I love to celebrate the people in my life. The tall one is a phenomenal father to our kids and we celebrate him more than one day a year.

My husband is up for ridiculous fun. Taking that into account, I think a few silly games to do together as a family would make for a great Father’s Day party. One that has recently caught my eye is Cheese Puff Head. You’ll need a few shower caps, a can of shaving cream and a big bag of cheese puff type snacks.

To play, you break into teams and one member of each team dons the shower cap. Then load up the cap with shaving cream on the outside and expose. The other members of the team then stand the designated distance away and start throwing cheese puffs one at a time and try to land them in the shaving cream.

Set a time limit of a couple of minutes and then count the number of landed cheese puffs to determine the winner.

Another fun game idea is to create a life sized Angry Birds game. First gather a bunch of boxes from a store or your recycling bin, as well as a few plastic balls. If you want to be fancy you can tape some pig faces on the balls. You’ll also need some type of large slingshot or you can rig one out of some stretchy material like panty hose.

Divide into teams and have the first team set up a pig fort with the boxes and balls. The other team will then use the slingshot to hurl balls at the fortress and try to displace as many pigs as possible.

As much as I love gifts, I also love giving the gift of intentional and creative time spent together. So many great memories are created that way, and having fun as a family is so crucial.
